Melanie Paris is a graduate-level practicum student currently pursuing her M.A. in Counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary and working toward certification as a Child-Centered Play Therapist. She holds a B.A. in Early Childhood and Elementary Education from The University of Alabama and spent over two decades teaching in elementary classrooms. Those years shaped her deep commitment to supporting children as they develop emotionally, socially, and academically while facing the complexities of everyday life.
Melanie’s decision to become a counselor was influenced by her own experience of how growth and restoration can occur within a trustworthy and supportive therapeutic relationship. This experience, combined with her background in education, informs her belief that the way individuals view themselves and relate to others is often formed through early life experiences. She is passionate about providing a collaborative space where clients can share and honor their stories while exploring how those formative experiences continue to influence present patterns. In her clinical work, Melanie focuses on helping clients develop insight and practical strategies that support healthier and more effective ways of moving forward. She strives to build secure, trustworthy connections and create an environment where clients feel comfortable exploring challenges at their own pace.
Although Melanie’s current passion is working with children and teens, she aspires to develop and translate these skills into work with adults through her practicum experience. As a beginning clinician, she works closely with her supervisor, Dr. Lindsay Akers, LPC-S, RPT, Certified CCPT-S, to ensure thoughtful, ethical, and developmentally appropriate care. Melanie approaches each client with openness and compassion, and she considers it a privilege to support all clients as they pursue healing and transformation.
